Meet Stephanie

content=”” />

I was born March 7 1987. I was a very happy and energetic child. At 9 months of age I was hospitalized with pneumonia and almost died. I eventually recovered, but not before being confined to a wheelchair, a quadriplegic. I had a “normal ” childhood with many friends and accomplishments along the way. After graduating high school my original plan was to go to medical school and become a pediatrician. I majored in biology because that’s what many students on a pre med trajectory did. At some point my grades slipped and I was at risk of being expelled. I changed my major to psychology and changed my whole career trajectory. My college experience was mixed. I experienced a lot of ups and downs for both personal and educational reasons, but overall I wouldn’t change anything I went through because it’s made me who I am today.

I graduated from Stony Brook University with a B.A. in Psychology. I went on to obtain an M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from C.W. Post. My life journey has been a lesson in Advocacy and self-discovery and that’s what I want to share with others. I am now a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Board  Certified Counselor. During my graduate studies I have gained experience assessing, diagnosing and treating a full range of mental health disorders in outpatient settings. I have gained experience with various client populations including psychiatric and geriatric populations diagnosed with depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, dementia, schizophrenia and other disorders. I have experience in conducting group and individual therapy with my theoretical approach being eclectic with a foundation in Person-centered and Adlerian therapies. I also utilize Motivational Interviewing techniques as well as principles from the field of Positive Psychology in my therapeutic work.
